Pablo Ruiz

Pablo Ruiz is a prizewinner of several international competitions, including the 2015 ASLICO Competition at the Teatro Sociale di Como, the 2012 International “Ciudad de Logroño” Competition, where he was awarded Second Prize, and the 2013 International Competition in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, where he received the prize for Best Zarzuela Singer.

He graduated from the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid and furthered his studies through masterclasses with Renato Bruson at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and with Alberto Zedda at the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro. Following his participation in the latter, he made his Rossini Opera Festival debut in 2015 as Don Profondo in Il viaggio a Reims.

In the following seasons, he appeared as Dottor Malatesta in Don Pasquale at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona and Teatro Fraschini in Pavia. He sang Dandini in La Cenerentola in Lucca and Ravenna, subsequently making his role debut as Don Magnifico in the same opera at the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro, as well as his debut as Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona.
Recent and forthcoming engagements include Bartolo in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Opéra de Marseille in a new production by Laurent Pelly, Opéra de Toulon, Opéra Royal de Wallonie and Teatro Real in Madrid; his role debut as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte in Tenerife; Escamillo in Carmen at Opera Lombardia, Bartolo in Paisiello’s Il Barbiere di SIviglia at Teatro la Maestranza in Sevilla, Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola in Pamplona, at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and Oper Köln, where he appeared in a new production; and Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore in Pamplona, at Oper Köln, at Opera de Las Palmas and Opéra de Toulon, as Nottingham in Roberto Devereux at ABAO in Bilbao
Recent engagements include also his role debut as Leporello in Don Giovanni at the Opéra de Toulon; Taddeo in L’italiana in Algeri at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Il viaggio a Reims at the Bolshoi Theatre under Tugan Sokhiev; La bohème at the Ópera de Las Palmas; the title role of Don Pasquale at the Nouvel Opéra Fribourg and Teatro Verdi in Trieste; Belcore in L’elisir d’amore at the Ópera de Bilbao; Don Alfonso in a new production of Così fan tutte at Staatstheater Mainz; Escamillo in Carmen at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari; and Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Ópera de Oviedo. At the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, he also appeared as Bartolo in a new production of Il barbiere di Siviglia conducted by Marie Jacquot.

On the concert platform, his repertoire includes Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle, which he performed at the Terras sem Sombra Festival in Portugal under Alberto Zedda and at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and Théâtre Wolubilis in Brussels; Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9; Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Requiem; and Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. He has also performed Haydn’s Die Schöpfung at the Théâtre Wolubilis in Brussels, Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ (Le Père de famille) with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias in Oviedo, as well as Fauré’s Requiem and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria at the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid.
